Get Out: Music, Life-Sized Chess and More

Farmington and Farmington Hills residents have a wide variety of events to fill the weekend.

This weekend is packed with activities, from downtown Farmington events to a Green Expo at Farmington Hills City Hall. Here are five events to add to your calendar:

Where/When: , 24505 Halsted Rd, Farmington Hills; Friday, 7 p.m.-Saturday, 1 a.m.

Why go: You can skate for hours, enjoy pizza, pop, games and prizes, including a chance to win tickets to Cedar Point.

Where/When: , Grand River Ave & Grove St, Farmington; Friday, 7 p.m.

Why go: Two words: Annabelle Road. There's a reason the Detroit country mega-concert Downtown Hoedown keeps asking them back. They perform original music and covers from country superstars like Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood and Faith Hill.

Where/When: , 31555 W 11 Mile Rd, Farmington Hills; Saturday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Why go: A whole range of fun family activities will include a DTE Energy Plug-in Electric Vehicle (PEV) charging station featuring a Ford Escape and Chevy Volt, a "climb on" garbage truck, a recycled garden flower project with , giveaways and presentations by the wonderful folks from the Nature Discovery Center. You can also tour all the green features at Farmington Hills City Hall. Refreshments will be offered for sale.

Where/When: , 32737 W 12 Mile Rd, Farmington Hills; Saturday, 2 p.m.

Why go: Members of the community – including Farmington-Farmington Hills Patch editor Joni Hubred-Golden – will be life-sized chess pieces in this game, which is reminiscent of Harry Potter's Wizards Chess.

Where/When: Holocaust Memorial Center, 28123 Orchard Lake Rd, Farmington Hills; Sunday 2 p.m.

Why go: Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with WWII veterans and hear their stories. Soviet partisan and WWII veteran Yakov Sigal and American WWII veteran Albert Zack are the featured speakers who will discuss stories of survival and fighting against the Nazis.
