Governor Warner Mansion Decked Out for Oct. 12 Ghost Walk

A giant cobweb occupied by a large, fuzzy spider is in place at the Governor Warner Mansion, for Friday's Ghost Walk. 

Scary stories, costumed "ghosts" and seasonal refreshments are all part of the fun, which begins at 7 p.m. This event is recommended for ages 8 and older.

The Mansion will be open for visitors, who will meet volunteers portraying members of the Warner family, including the ghost of Fred Warner and his wife, Rhoda, who will talk about their lives and deaths. Other costumed mourners will describe the many traditions associated with death in the Victorian era, including rules about behavior, clothing, house decorations, foods, and superstitions.

Some special guests will attend a mourning feast in the dining room, and find out what happened to the youngest Warner, identified on a tombstone only as “Baby”. 

Scary story tellers will be located in special areas behind the Mansion, Farmington area "steampunkers" and Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home will provide special attractions on the grounds. For a nominal fee, card readers will be available on the Mansion porch and in the gazebo.

Admission of $10 per person covers admission to the House and grounds, as well as refreshments. Proceeds benefit the historic home of Michigan's only three-term governor and Farmington native Fred M. Warner.
