Great Escape: Visit a Museum

Farmington and Farmington Hills have several places you can go to escape into the past.

If you're looking for a great place to spend an afternoon and enrich your mind, consider spending time at one of three museums located in Farmington and Farmington Hills:

, this Victorian house museum owned by the City of Farmington pays tribute to Farmington's own Fred M. Warner, who is Michigan's only three term governor. Warner made his mark not only on the state, but also on Farmington, with this classic Italianate home whose sweeping porch and charming gazebo have been the scene for many a wedding and prom photo. For more information, visit the city's Web site.

Located in Farmington Hills' , this museum offers a wealth of books, exhibits and memorabilia that share the history of Farmington and Farmington Hills. If you're looking to do some research about the community, you'll find a collection of monographs and other local history books to pore over. The museum is in a small farm house built by Palmer Sherman, who also built Longacre House, located just south of the Heritage & History Center. For more information, visit pastways.info

Prepare to be moved by a visit to the Holocaust Memorial Center (HMC), which shares not only the horrors of the Holocaust, but also the courage and determination of the Jewish people. "America's first freestanding Holocaust Memorial Center" has a new traveling exhibit, Barsamian: 20 Years-Searching for the Answer, which features the work of Dallas-based artist Robert Barsamian. He raises the question of whether art can help us understand even the darkest chapters of our history. Visit the HMC's Web site to learn more.
