Have You Walked the Fit Farmington Trail?

Farmers & Artisans Market patrons have an opportunity to get some exercise and more on Saturday.

If you're staying in town this weekend, Saturday's Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market offers a fitness walk, entertainment and demonstrations to go along with the 40-plus vendors who will offer everything from fresh flowers and produce to baked goods and unique gift items.

Here's what's happening Saturday:

  • Meet the Miss Farmington contestants, who will make their first public appearance to ring the market bell at 9 a.m.
  • Music at the Market presents market favorite Mark Reitenga, who will perform from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Check out a sample of Reitenga's acoustic folk music style on his website.
  • Pick up some new skills at a container gardening class with Heidi Cook at 9:30 a.m., and chef Randy Hall from Destiny Catering and Concessions, who will give a cooking demonstration at 11 a.m.
  • Bring your walking shoes for Fit Farmington, a one-mile walk through downtown that starts every market day at 10 a.m. You'll start and end at the , on a route that averages 20-30 minutes of walk time. Maps of the route are on the Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market brochure available at the market or at DowntownFarmington.org on the Farmers Market page. 

Each week, a Fit Farmington representative will lead the walk. Be sure to pick up your Fit Farmington punch card to track your miles and your stats.

Cards will be turned in Sept. 17, so those who logged the most miles and had the most-improved stats can be entered in a raffle prize drawing at the Harvest Moon Celebration Sept. 23-24.

The market is in full swing on Saturdays, through Nov. 19. Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
