Historical Society Hosts Abraham Lincoln

Re-enactor Fred Priebe shares America's 16th President's humor and life story.

When Abraham Lincoln walked into the Wednesday evening, members of the Farmington Historical Society (FHS) applauded.

Re-enactor Fred Priebe of Belleville is the spitting image of America's 16th president and never broke character as he shared the details of Lincoln's life, political philosophies and wry humor.

Priebe performed for the Historical Society's annual banquet, which is the group's end-of-the-year celebration. From tales of Lincoln's childhood in Kentucky and Indiana, to the story of his courtship with Mary Todd, he delighted the audience of 35 FHS members and guests, a record attendance.

During a short business meeting, members elected their 2011-2012 officers: Brian Golden, president; Lynn Hayes, vice president; Al Moehlman, treasurer; Laura Myers, secretary; and Sharon Bernath, corresponding secretary.

The group takes part in some summer events. They're represented at the History Booth during the Farmington Area Founders Festival, July 15-17, 2011 in downtown Farmington. And FHS will host a Porch Party at the on Aug. 11, 7 p.m.-9 p.m.
