History Groups Serve Up Floats at Porch Party in Farmington

Experts in all aspects of Farmington area history will be on hand to answer questions at the Governor Warner Mansion.

The Farmington Historical Commission and the Farmington Historical Society will together host a June 13 porch party, "Floats and Farmington History" at the Governor Warner Mansion.

This will literally be a historic night in Farmington as the two groups work together on one event for the first time. Guests will enjoy sipping ice cream floats and may ask questions about Farmington, historic homes, The Warnerettes Parasol Drill Team, Governor Fred Warner and his home, the Detroit United Railway, historic preservation, moving an old house and more.

No questions? Then just pull up a chair and relax or play "old time" games like badminton, croquet, and horse shoes. Try your skill rolling a giant hoop across the grass, the ball and cup game, or board games on the porch. Have your picture taken with our Victorian-dressed silhouette cut-outs.

Guests may also bring gently-used items for the Mansion’s annual Flea Market, which will be held during Founders Festival on July 20. Items may also be delivered during regular Mansion hours on Wednesdays and the first Sunday of each month, 1 p.m.-5 p.m. For other options, call 248-474-5500, Ext. 2225. Proceeds will be used for Mansion restoration.

Admission for porch party, held from 7 p.m.-9 p.m., is $5 per person. Children under 8 are free. The Governor Warner Mansion is located at 33805 Grand River, just west of Farmington Road, in Farmington.
