What is the value of your landscape? Unlike many home improvements or updates one does to their home landscape holds and even increases in value. When thinking about your home value, especially for resale, landscaping is the best investment.
A well-landscaped home has a bigger perceived value than a home with no or poor landscape. It is all about curb appeal and how people feel when approaching your home.
It is very interesting many home improvements are done and a person can usually get a small return on investment when the home goes to resale. But landscape plants can be put it at a minimal cost and over the years the value grows, especially the investment of trees, thus increasing the perceived overall value of the home or property. Property and homes sell more rapidly with large trees, mature shrubs and a well-manicured landscape.
When planning your landscape, you should be thinking in terms of large trees for the next 25 to 50 years. Shrubs and small ornamental trees 15 to 25 years and foundation plantings are planted to last 10 to 15 years. Many plants that are installed when they are very small take a few years to reach maturity. This is not all bad for the homeowner. Small plants cost less and need less care than larger plants. Therefore a home owner is able to enjoy the added value to their property at minimal cost and maintenance.
So when thinking about improving your property value, to enjoy yourself or for resale think about the curb appeal and what a fresh and updated landscape can do for you. You will not only enjoy driving in your drive, sitting on your porch more, but really like the added dollars you will get when and if you are ready to sell.
