May 18 Town Hall Focus is Overcoming Depression

This free event offers information about depression and local resources that offer help.

The Farmington Hills/Farmington Commission on Children, Youth and Families will present a free Town Hall Forum “Recognizing and Overcoming Depression” on May 18, from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m., at , 11 Mile and Orchard Lake Roads.

The program will begin with a presentation by the team “Stamp Out Stigma” led by Malkia Maisha Newman from Community Network Services. They encourage everyone to overcome the stigma of mental illness to better understand and treat it.

Jeff Brown, Executive Director of the will discuss the difference between feeling a little blue, and being depressed, and provide local resources that can help bring back mental health.

Dr. Donna Rockwell of the will share a simple meditation to help the body combat depression and anxiety and explain why this is effective.

The program will conclude with a panel discussion of these speakers along with James Perlacki, Common Ground and Oakland County Suicide Prevention Coalition, and Dr. Paul Melrose from the . Members of the audience will be encouraged to ask questions.

Light refreshments will be served, and informational exhibits will include representatives and materials from Common Ground, Oakland County Community Mental Health, and Oakland County Community Network Services.
