Memorial Day is right around the corner, and your family may already have organized your plans for the long weekend.
Normally, this first "summery" holiday is filled with picnics, backyard barbecues, parades and maybe even a short vacation. But Memorial Day originally had a much more somber meaning.
Started as "Decoration Day," the holiday honored the memory of soldiers who died in the Civil War. After World War I, it was expanded to honor all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
