Moms Talk: Year-Round School

Should Farmington Schools consider this controversial option?

Lake Orion may become the first Michigan school district with year-round school throughout the district. A task force with communitywide representation is meeting to consider whether to implement this option.

According to research published at edweek.org, more than 2.3 million students in more than 3,100 public schools attended school year-round in 2002-03. The report explains that advocates say year-round school increases student acheivement, while opponents say it interferes with family life and that children still learn during the summer months off school, but in different ways.

What do you think about year-round school? Should consider this option?
