National Weather Service Issues Winter Storm Warning

More snow is on the way, making trouble for tomorrow's rush hour.

Expect another blanket of snow to add to all those big piles at the side of the road this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning, which goes into effect at 2 a.m. Friday and ends at 11 a.m. Friday. The NWS forecasts that the "quick-hitting" storm could bring with it 3-6 inches of snow over a short period of time, and will make driving hazardous during rush hour.

The storm is expected to hit southeast Michigan hardest between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m., when one inch per hour is likely to fall.

The storm system is coming in from "the southern Ohio Valley tonight and through western Pennsylvania (close to Pittsburgh) tomorrow morning," according to the NWS. "This is historically a favorable track for heavy snow in Detroit."

Motorists should expect low visibility of half a mile or less and slick, snow-covered roads. It is also expected to be windy with some gusts getting as high as 30 mph. Snow may become heavy around the M-59 corridor.
