Nature Preserved At Home

Check out area homes with large yards and mature trees. Maybe it's time to put down some roots and enjoy your own little slice of green!

For many people, there's nothing that soothes the soul after a long day at work in the concrete trenches than just relaxing beneath a big old shade tree on a patch of soft green grass. And if that big old tree is right in your own backyard, that makes it even better!

Trees are expensive to purchase and install, and are a major part of a home's landscape and curb appeal. If you're lucky enough to purchase a home with mature landscaping, you'll avoid considerable cost and untold hours of work (or the hefty cost of hiring a landscaper to do the work for you). Aside from aesthetic considerations, mature, healthy trees can add significant value to a property, providing shade, privacy and beauty through every season. Mature plantings and shrubs also provide color and texture and add to the ambiance of your home.

We found five area homes that are on large lots (many boast more than an acre) with mature landscaping and a glorious assortment of trees, something you'll never find in a newly constructed home or subdivision. In Farmington Hills, the home on Broadview is covered with fruit trees. The West Bloomfield home on 14 Mile Road has trees that are over 100 years old. Even in Birmingham, where amply sized yards are tough to come by, we found a home that makes the most of limited outdoor space with wonderful trees and landscaping.
