Key to Awesomeness: As a final step in the process, the girls created a "take action" project: creating a paper recycle program for their school. They advertised their project to all teachers and staff in the school through announcements, e-mails and posters. The Troop provided recycle bins (created with copier paper boxes).  The bins were given out to all teachers, office staff and library locations.  Every Tuesday, morning announcements are made to remind all staff to place their bins outside of their doors to be emptied.

And on every Tuesday, the girls gave up their lunch recess time to collect the contents of the paper bins, from over 40 classrooms and offices, then transport all collected paper for recycling to the parking lot and empty it into a large collection bin. The large collection bin is emptied on a regular basis by a company that reimburses the school by the pound of paper collected.

The Troop girls have done this project on their own, with no adult assistance for the last four months.

The theme of their final project is "to make the world a better place." They have prepared a manual on their recycle project to provide for any group that may wish to carry on the project next year.

Warner Upper Elementary School is in the process of organizing their "Green Team" to collect paper and other recyclable items throughout the school. The members of Troop 44149 hope that their "putting into motion" the recycle paper portion of the Green Team's ideal will be helpful for the future of Warner Upper Elementary going green for the environment.
