Paws in the Hills Dog Park on Track to Open Next Month in Farmington Hills

Mandatory orientation sessions are scheduled for prospective members of the park, which is open to dog owners who live within the Farmington school district.

By mid-June, dogs in Farmington Hills and Farmington will have a new place to play and meet friends. 

assistant city manager Dana Whinnery said Tuesday a layout has been finalized for the 4-acre park at the former William Grace Elementary property on Shiawassee east of Middlebelt in Farmington Hills. The park layout will include separate areas for large and small dogs, he said.

"It's been quite rewarding to work on," Whinnery said of the project, which involved between the city and officials. The land is being leased to the city for $1 per year.

Bids are being solicited for a key fob system that will provide secured access to the park, Whinnery said. 

On Monday, Hills council members approved the purchase of fencing, and the city's parks and recreation committee has approved a set of rules and regulations for the park. Membership will be open to residents of Farmington Hills and anyone who lives in the Farmington Public Schools district, Whinnery said.

The on Thursday announced a schedule of mandatory orientation sessions for prospecitve members, who will be required to register in order to use the park. Registration materials will be given at the end of these sessions, held at the in Farmington Hills:

Tuesday, May 22 - 7 p.m.-8 p.m.

Saturday, May 26 - 12 p.m.-1 p.m.

Thursday, May 31 - 7 p.m.-8 p.m.

Tuesday, June 12 - 7 p.m.-8 p.m.
