Percussionists Beat a Path to Farmington Hills

The Michigan Color Guard Circuit Solo & Ensemble Competition was held at O.E. Dunckel Middle School on Sunday.

Farmington United Percussion Ensemble (FUPE) hosted students from all over the Detroit area Sunday at the Michigan Color Guard Circuit Solo & Ensemble Competition, held at in Farmington Hills. Intermission entertainment was also provided by the FUPE AAA, Independent A and Open Line groups.

FUPE AAA Line consists of seventh- and eighth-grade students from . The group entertained the audience and participants during the first break in the competition with a rousing version of "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown." Next, the FUPE Independent A Line (high school students from eight different high schools in the metro area) performed "Everything Blue" to ample applause.

Later in the afternoon, the FUPE Open Line (high school and college students 22 and under) performed "The Fall of Atlantis," complete with distinctive and colorful costumes and impressive choreography and energy.

The competition itself included snare and tenor individual and ensemble performances, as well as flag, rifle and sabre individual routines. Upcoming FUPE events include a competition to be held at in Farmington Hills on March 20.
