Power Outage Affects More Than 1,000 DTE Customers in Farmington Hills

Can't blame the weather for an outage affecting neighborhoods between Farmington and Orchard Lake Roads.

As strong winds blew through Oakland County Wednesday evening, more than 1,200 DTE Energy customers in Farmington Hills lost power. But a DTE spokesperson said the outage doesn't appear to be weather-related.

According to the company's Outage Center, 1,027 customers in a large area between Farmington and Orchard Lake Roads and south of 11 Mile Road have been without power since 6:39 p.m.

DTE spokesperson Erica Donerson said workers believe a failed cable is to blame for the area-wide outage.

"It doesn't appear to be weather-related," she said Wednesday evening. "The exact cause is unclear as to why the cable failed."

Donerson said crews hope to have power restored sometime Wednesday night, but they are also dealing with widely scattered power outages related to severe weather affecting southeast Michigan.
