Relief at the Pump: Gas Prices Falling from Summer Peak
The cheapest gas in the Farmington area today is $3.89 per gallon, and prices are expected to continue falling in coming weeks.
The average price for a gallon of gas is slowly starting to fall after hitting a seasonal peak of $3.87 on Sept. 14, according to the Wall Street Journal.
AAA reports the national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.79 today; one year ago today, the national average was $3.50 per gallon.
“Retail gasoline prices have slowly been drifting lower since we hit a late summer peak of $3.8708 a gallon on Sept. 14,” Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst at the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS), told the Wall Street Journal. He added that gas prices could fall into the $3.70s this week.

In Farmington, you can find the cheapest gas at the Grand River and Power Marathon station, which is currently charging $3.89 per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline. Gas prices in Farmington Hills are slightly higher; the Citgo station on Grand River east of Middlebelt has regular gas at $3.98.
