Sun Shines on Memorial Day

Bright skies and moderate temperatures greet spectators and participants in the annual parade.

Hundreds of spectators lined Grand River today for the annual Memorial Day parade, organized by American Legion Groves-Walker Post #346 in Farmington. After rain blew through Sunday night, the sun shone bright all along the parade route.

Starting at 10 a.m. from Mooney Street and Grand River, the parade featured more than 60 units, from local Scout troops, marching bands and swim clubs to color guards and a full complement of emergency vehicles from Farmington and Farmington Hills. Emceeing this year's parade were WDIV Channel 4 meterologist – and Farmington Hills resident – Paul Gross and Kelly Duca, a former Miss Farmington. Chair for the event was Maj. Rocky Raczkowski, U.S. Army Reserve, a life-long Farmington Hills resident and former state representative.
