The Week Ahead: Farmington Council, Titanic Tea, Steampunk Soul Food

Farmington's city manager presents the 2011-2012 budget tonight.

A busy week in Farmington and Farmington Hills starts today, and we have plenty of events on our calendar. Here are a few to consider for your calendar:

In the unlikely event the weather warms up tonight, will be held in the Village Commons parking lot on Grand River, west of Orchard Lake Road. This free event, which includes a DJ, 50/50 drawing and discounted food at Bellacino's, is held weekly through the summer, unless it's raining or below 60 degrees. Proceeds go to charity.

Tonight at 7 p.m., members will consider approval of a liquor license for , an entertainment venue proposed for this year's Farmington Area Founders Festival. Officials will also get their first look at the proposed 2011-2012 city budget. The public is welcome to attend, and time is allotted for public comment.

Also this evening, the Parent Teacher Student Association (FHS PTSA) hosts Students will have a chance to talk about dealing with adults, dating, self respect and confidence, classmates, cliques and group pressures. Breakout sessions will be facilitated by trained adults assisted by FHS PTSA and STRIKE Achievement Team members. A free dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m.; there will be movie passes to the first 50 students and a prize drawing.

Make your reservation today for Tuesday's afternoon tea at . starts at 1 p.m., with lunch and seasonal tea served as  Barbara and David Kincaid discuss the legends surrounding the Titanic. Cost is $20 for residents, $25 for nonresidents. Call 248-473-1870.

, and preschoolers (and their parents) are invited to a special skate that starts at 10 a.m. A parent gets in free with a $6 child's admission; the price includes skate rental, a mini-lesson, hot dog and a drink – and time with E.B.

, meets at the on Thursday at 6 p.m. Share experiences and tips, and participate in the yarn exchange. There's no need to register; for information, call the library, 248-553-0300.

Also on Thursday, anyone who enjoys watching storms is invited to at the in Farmington Hills. Warning Coordination Meteorologist Richard Pollman will teach you how to become an official spotter. You do need to register; call 248-473-1800.

Friday brings another special event, . Fried chicken, collard greens, corn bread and more is on the menu for the 7:30 p.m. event. Registration is required, cost is $25. Call 248-937-2934.
