UPDATE: Thursday Night Power Outage Affects 10,000+ in Farmington, Farmington Hills

DTE Energy expects to have the area outage, which also affects Livonia, repaired between 1:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Friday.

UPDATE: (FPS), via its Facebook page, reports the cause of a Thursday night power outage that affected thousands of residents in Farmington and Farmington Hills was apparently a downed primary power line in the area of Freedom and Hillview Ct. FPS reports Farmington Hills Fire and Detroit Edison are on scene.

The lights snapped off just before 11 p.m. Thursday for more than 10,000 DTE Energy customers in Farmington, Farmington Hills and Livonia.

DTE Energy's web site refers to the problem as an "area outage" and shows swaths of homes and businesses without power from Farmington Road west to Halsted, extending west of Halsted north of 10 Mile, and east of Farmington from Nine Mile to Seven Mile.

Traffic lights are out at Farmington and Orchard/Alta Loma and Farmington and Freedom; police were directing traffic at Eight Mile and Farmington.

DTE's website estimates power will be restored sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Friday.
