Weekend Planner: Shopping, Crafts, Entertainment and More

Patch tells you what's happening this weekend around Farmington and Farmington Hills.

The weekend is finally here, so it's time to get out and enjoy it. All week long, we have shared our daily picks for fun and interesting events, to help you plan your weekend adventures.

When: Friday from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Why go: As the clock ticks down on the holiday shopping season, why not make it easier for yourself and shop where over 65 vendors will be in one spot? The City of Farmington Hills Special Services Dept. is hosting a 2011 Holiday Shopping Expo at the  on Friday night and Saturday. There will be one-of-a-kind creations from local crafters and artisans including jewelry, holiday merchandise, toys, pottery and more. On Friday night, enjoy shopping by yourself and have an opportunity to win raffle prizes. On Saturday, you can bring the kids to visit with Santa.

When: Saturday at 7 p.m.

Why go: The  continues its performing arts series with a special holiday concert on Saturday. The acclaimed men’s chorus Measure for Measure, which includes a unique range of men's voices from the highest tenor to the deepest bass, from high school students to mature singers, will perform. Joining them as special guests will also be the Lansford Men's Chorus. The Chorus was created in 1999 with only six men and a piano, the group has grown into a world-class choral ensemble with almost 60 members.

When: Drop-in anytime on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Why go: With all the holiday hustle and bustle going on, you may want take a break and get back to nature.  Enjoy the crisp air and the natural smell of pine as the Nature Center offers you a chance to create your own natural wreath on Saturday.  The Center will provide all the supplies to create a wreath, swags and/or special holiday gifts.  It's a good way to go green and craft one-of-a-kind holiday decorations for your family to enjoy through the holiday season. Cost is $8 per family

Where: 

When: Friday or Saturday at 8 p.m.; Sunday at 2 p.m.

Why go: The Farmington Players bring Charles Dickens' classic and timeless holiday story to life this weekend, with a fresh approach. The novella was first published in 1843, and the story unfolds on Christmas Eve of 1843. This time Dickens hosts the Christmas Eve party and when asked to tell a story, he refuses to work on the holiday eve. He asks his family and friends to improvise and each take part in the story telling. You will still see Scrooge, Jacob Marley, and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. A cast of 10 actors play over 40 parts in this unique version of a holiday classic. Find tickets and more information at farmingtonplayers.org

When: Sunday from 1 - 3 p.m.

Why go: Tis the season for giving and the Salvation Army needs your help. The Farmington/Novi Rotary Club invites everyone to join them on Sunday in donating and wrapping toys to be delivered to the Salvation Army. Bring in a new toy to donate and join the community in wrapping toys, having fun, fellowship, eating cookies and listening to holiday music. Your time and effort will be rewarded when you brighten a child's holiday.
