Weekend Planner: Winter Farmers Market, Holiday Concerts, and a Murder Mystery Dinner

Patch tells you what's happening this weekend around Farmington and Farmington Hills.

It's the last weekend before Hanukkah and Christmas arrive, so it's time to get out there and enjoy all the activities in and around town. The month of December always brings a wide variety of events for you to enjoy.  All week long, we have shared our daily picks for fun and interesting events, to help you plan your weekend adventures.

When: Sunday at 6 p.m.

Why go: Off the Beaten Path Books and Cafe presents their first wassail feast and murder mystery The Intriguing Conundrum of the Mysterious Demise of Lord John Stone on Sunday. The Cafe encourages dressy attire as you embark on a 7-course meal prepared by Aaron Egan. The lavish meal will include roasted cornish hens with a lemon cream sauce, braised beef en filo, winter salad, a winter spice trifle and other delicious fare. The original play created by Verneita Pezet and Richard Smith will provide you with an evening of entertainment as you try to help solve who killed Lord Stone.

When: Friday or Saturday at 8 p.m.

Why go: The Farmington Community Chorus will perform their annual holiday concert on Friday and Saturday. The concert will feature holiday favorites including: "It's the Holiday Season," "Silver and Gold," "Snow," plus many more. The Chorus was established in 1980 and consists of approximately 80 people from all over the metropolitan area. Enjoy "Ornaments" the holiday concert that will be performed under director Steve SeGraves who has been the chorus director for more than 20 years.

When: Saturday at 1 p.m.

Why go: Shining Star Performing Arts Academy presents A Christmas Spectacular this Saturday. Enjoy live ballet dancers performing songs and dances from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, and Annie. There will also be a live performance from the band A.N.I. All that for only $5, and bring your camera for a meet and greet with Santa Claus.

When: Saturday from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Why go: Enjoy shopping at Farmington's newest local market on Saturday.  Set in the unique historic old winery, you may be surprised how warm and friendly this market is.  It features local growers, local artisans, and small business owners who are offering a wide variety of fresh baked goods, produce, and unique hand-crafted items and services. You may be able to find that special gift for someone at , Baskets By RoseJerry's Nature Design, or Silver Findings or you can create your own special basket filling it with homemade granola from the The Granola Tree, olive oil from The Olive Grove, or baked goods from Cheeky Monkeys FoodsFostoria Bread Factory or the Sunflour Bakehaus. There are plenty more vendors to choose from.  The market offers a matchless shopping environment which keeps your money local and provides you with some of the best and freshest products, whether it be for yourself or for a gift.

When: Sunday from 12-6 p.m.

Why go:  is hosting a Hanukkah Wonderland on Sunday.  will be overrun with Judaic activities and entertainment that children of all ages will love.

At 11 a.m., women can enjoy a Caffeine for the Soul class with coffee and donuts. An exciting line up of activities, foods and crafts will be available all day long. The Wonderland features the world's largest dreidel-shaped moonbounce, an opportunity to stuff a donut, an olive press demonstration, interactive Hanukkah game show, Hanukkah Lego land, design a Hanukkah t-shirt, and get your picture taken with Judah the Maccabee. There will also be a design your own Dreidel Magician show.
