What's Open on Memorial Day?

You probably already know that government offices – including both and city offices and post office branches in and will be closed on Memorial Day. But did you know the library's closing for the long weekend?

Here's a look at what's open and what's not on Memorial Day:

• While post office branches are closed, you can use automated mailing centers in their lobbies to weigh letters and packages, and buy postage.

• Both the on 12 Mile Road and the are open until 6 p.m. Friday – and then closed Saturday through Monday. You can always drop off your books, CDs, DVDs and other materials at the drive up return on 12 Mile, or the drop box at the Farmington branch.
• The office closed at noon Friday and will re-open Tuesday morning.
• Need a prescription filled? While CVS, Rite-Aid and Walgreen's are all open on Memorial Day, not all pharmacies are. These are open: CVS and CVS , 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Walgreens and , 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Rite Aid pharmacies at and are open 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
• Looking for a cup of coffee? expects to be open regular hours on Memorial Day, but on Northwestern is closed. You can get your Starbucks fix at either the or store. If you're looking for a little Steampunk to go with that coffee or tea, though, you're out of luck – is closed for the World Steam Expo in Dearborn, through Monday. (We're also keeping an eye on Mentobe Cafe, which is expected to open soon next to the Farmington Civic in downtown Farmington.)
• The beauty of a Monday holiday is that you can take advantage of matinee prices. Of course, tickets are always low at the in downtown Farmington. They're showing Hop, Scream 4, The Adjustment Bureau and The Lincoln Lawyer on Monday, with matinees starting at 1 p.m. on Grand River in Farmington Hills has eight shows, with the earliest showtime at 11:10 a.m.
