Women Invited to May 5 Self-Defense Seminar at the Y

Advance registration is required for the training, which is open to women ages 11 and up.

The Farmington Hills/Farmington Emergency Preparedness Commission (EPC) and the will present a women’s self-defense seminar on Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the YMCA, located at 28100 Farmington Rd. in Farmington Hills. 

More than 1,000 women have participated in the EPC’s popular self-defense seminars, which have been presented 10 times during the past six years. The class will be taught by Jeff Duncan, master instructor and sixth degree black belt, his wife Connie, second degree black belt and chief instructor, and additional female black belt instructors from . Through a series of close-range drills, women will learn both situational awareness skills and self-defense skills.

The self-defense seminar is open to all women ages 11 and up. An $8 registration fee will cover class supplies and also a tax-deductible donation to be shared by HAVEN, an Oakland County crisis and counseling center for victims of domestic violence, and the Farmington Family YMCA’s youth and family programs.
