Council Candidate Has 'Great Passion' for Farmington

Erica Reaves says her collaborative style and ability to listen will be an asset in city government.

Farmington resident Erica Reaves pulled petitions to run for city council a few years ago, but never turned them in.

"It just wasn't the right timing," said Reaves, who is a candidate on the Nov. 5 ballot.

While this is her first run for office, she has a political background, having worked on campaigns and attended advocacy events in Washington, D.C. while she was growing up. Reaves also served internships in the Ohio Senate and House of Representatives.

"I have a great passion for the city of Farmington," she said. "The community knows what they want. I'm here, I'm listening, and I value what they have to say."

Reaves said the city's recent listing as one of the country's best places to live "speaks volumes" about current and past leadership and management. She believes her collaborative style, consistency and resilience will be an asset in city government.

Why she decided to run
Friends told Reaves she should run for office. "We are progressing and moving forward, and we need to get to that next level," she said. "That's where I want to make a difference."

Community connections
Reaves served as co-chair of Advocates for Excellence, which promoted the "yes" vote in the Farmington Public Schools Aug. 6 bond election, and she has been a classroom and PTA volunteer at Lanigan Elementary. She is active with the Greater Farmington Area Chamber, serving on the women's business committee.

Employment
Reaves attended Ohio State, then transferred to Valor Christian College in Ohio. After graduating, she served in full-time ministry. For the past six years, she has been a relocation consultant for Corrigan Moving Systems.

Campaign information
Reaves is working on a Facebook page that will have more information.
