Adult Learning Institute Hosts Dave Bennett at OCC Orchard Ridge Campus on October 16

As part of its Fall 2013 semester, the Adult Learning
Institute (ALI) is hosting Dave Bennet and his trio on Wednesday, October 16.  The performance will begin at 1:00 pm in the
Smith Theatre on the Oakland Community College Orchard Ridge Campus.  The performance is free.

Michigan clarinetist Dave Bennett is an authentic musical
prodigy (totally self-taught) who brings to life the classic sound and music of
Benny Goodman (1909-1986) with incredible technique, style, beauty of tone and
naturalness. Truly a “young phenom”, Dave began playing at age 10 on a clarinet
given to him by his grandparents.  By age
12 he was playing in jazz clubs in New York, at 14 he was on the road playing
Dixie on the festival circuit, and at 17 he was a soloist with the Count Basie
Orchestra.  Dave’s career continues to
grow, and his playing now reflects a mature personal style that evokes a unique
blending of his two idols:  Benny Goodman
and Pete Fountain.  ALI is proud to host
Dave Bennett whenever he is in town.

The Adult Learning Institute (ALI) is a member-run forum
for retired and semi-retired people to share the joys of learning and
friendship.  ALI develops Spring and Fall
semesters that run three days a week for seven weeks on the Oakland Community
College Orchard Ridge Campus.  Each
session or program is different with instructors from a wide variety of
professions.  Classes are open to all who
register, and there is no homework.  For
