Donate blood at Botsford Hospital on March 3 and be entered in a cool contest

Botsford Hospital will hold a blood drive for the American Red Cross on Monday, March 3.

Those donating will be entered in a contest and could win a two-year lease on a Ford Fusion or $125 gas card. Donating blood feels great, because you’d be doing something helpful. For most people, blood is something you can spare, yet, there is still not enough to go around to those who need it. And, you would be someone's hero -- in fact, you could help save more than one life with just one blood donation.

Blood donations will be accepted 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday, March 3 in the Community Room in Botsford Hospital's Zieger Center at 28050 Grand River Ave., Farmington Hills. Walk-ins will be accepted until 4 p.m. Donors should visit www.redcrossblood.org; enter "botsford" as the sponsor code to register. Or, donors may contact Amy Bowes, at Botsford, (248) 888-2610, for a blood donation appointment.

For more than 20 years, Botsford Hospital has been a site for American Red Cross sponsored blood drives. According to the American Red Cross, more than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day. Blood is needed for emergencies and for people who have cancer, blood disorders, sickle cell disease, and other illnesses. One donation can save up to three lives.

To donate blood, you must be 17 years old, in good health, and weigh at least 110 pounds. There is no upper age limit for donors. Some medical conditions, medical histories, prescription drugs, and recent travel to some foreign countries can limit donor eligibility.
