The Dream Lives On: Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the Library

Day long program of events to remember the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. All events are family friendly, free and open to anyone.

  • 9:00–9:30 a.m.: The celebration begins at 9:00 a.m., where participants will gather at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 28000 New Market Road, and walk to the Main Library (1/3 mile).
  • 10:15 a.m.:Concert by the O.E. Dunckel Middle School Choir.
  • 10:45 a.m.: Noted children’s author/illustrator Bryan Collier discusses I, Too, Am America, based on a poem by Langston Hughes that celebrates the African American Pullman porters who spread culture and literacy in a most unusual way. Books available for purchase and signing.
  • 11:30 a.m. Poet Ber-Henda Williams, founder of Poetry, Pages and Scribes, a monthly poetry series
  • 1:00 p.m. Traditional music and stories with a positive message, presented by Robert Jones.
  • 2:00 p.m. Performance by Harrison High School Dance Company.
