FURNITURE BANK SEEKS DONATIONS OF GENTLY-USED TWIN BEDS

Furniture Bank of Southeastern Michigan is Seeking Donations of Gently Used Twin Beds- Pick Up Available

The Furniture Bank of Southeastern Michigan is seeking donations of gently-used twin beds from residents in Oakland and northern Macomb counties, so more local children and families in need can sleep in a clean, safe, comfortable environment.

Adequate sleep is essential to proper development, and one of the Furniture Bank’s primary objectives is that children are sleeping in a bed at night, rather than on a couch… or worse, a floor.   Currently, the organization has a critical shortage of twin mattresses and box springs, with more than 20 families – many of which have young children – waiting for a total of 35 twin beds.

“We have a strong commitment to assisting families in dire need of basic living essentials,” said Robert Boyle, Executive Director, Furniture Bank of Southeastern Michigan.  “Almost all the families we serve are living below the poverty level, and many are transitioning from homelessness, fleeing crisis situations, or have a case with child protective services.”  In 2012 alone, the Furniture Bank helped more than 1,900 families, providing 10,000 gently-used items that included more than 1,600 beds.

The Furniture Bank has a truck that will come directly to Oakland or northern Macomb county residencies and pick up a gently-used twin bed.  It will also pick up full-, queen- or king-size beds, along with sofas, dining tables and dressers.  All pickups are free for items left on the porch or in the garage.  For just $20, the Furniture Bank’s trained, professional movers will carefully remove furniture from donors’ homes, with the proceeds supporting its mission.  All furniture donations are tax-deductible, and a receipt is provided to all donors at the time of pick-up.

For more information, or to schedule a furniture donation, donors can call 248-332-1300 Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.  They can also email info@furniture-bank.org  or visit www.furniture-bank.org anytime.
