Last-Minute Locavore: For Dog Lovers

Canine College, a doggie day care, also carries a variety of gift items for pets.

Christmas is just days away, but there's still plenty of time for you to shop local in Farmington and Farmington Hills.

This week, we're sharing some of the unique items available at local stores. Today's featured gifts are for dog lovers, from Canine College

  • Elk Antlers These are wonderful for dogs to chew – long lasting and durable. Won’t stain carpet, no odor
  • Himalayan Dog Chew 100 percent natural, no preservatives, made from an ancient recipe of the people of the Himalayas and Nepal
  • Fantastic Collars from Buckle-down These are trendy and durable – actual safety belt clasps. No more worrying that the plastic clasp will break or release by accident.
  • Chilly Dog scarves Handknit wool dog scarves
The doggie day care also gives dog lovers the opportunity to help homeless dogs staying at the Michigan Humane Society (MHS) Berman Center for Animal Care in Westland. Canine College has a tree with hundreds of paper ornaments bearing pictures of animals in need of extra love this holiday season.

On the back of each ornament is the animal’s "wish list". Stop by and choose an ornament, purchase the items on the "wish list" and place them in a holiday stocking. Staple the animal's picture to the stocking and bring it back to Canine College to place under the tree.

Stockings will be collected through Dec. 18. Canine College is located at 23717 Research Drive, Farmington Hills.
