What's Open Thanksgiving Day in Farmington and Farmington Hills?

Because Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday, first declared in 1863 by President Abraham Lincoln, all government offices will be closed on Thursday, as will banks.

Farmington and Farmington Hills city halls will be closed both Thursday and Friday, as will the 47th District Court building. The Farmington Community Library Main Library and Farmington branch will both close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday and re-open on Friday. 

There will be no trash pick-up on Thursday; Thursday's collection will be made Friday and Friday's on Saturday. Regular routes resume on Monday. 

U.S. Post Offices in Farmington and Farmington Hills will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Both have Automated Postal Centers, where customers can purchase stamps, buy postage for packages and conduct other business.

In addition to most grocery stores, here's a list of retailers that remain open on Thanksgiving Day:

Kmart - opens at 6 a.m.

Best Buy - opens at 6 p.m.

Target - opens at 8 p.m. 

7 Eleven stores - three Farmington Hills locations are open 24 hours: 22069 Farmington Rd., 22323 Middlebelt Rd. and 29318 Orchard Lake Rd.

Walgreens - both locations 24140 Orchard Lake Rd and 27750 Grand River Ave. will be open

Both community movie theaters will be open Thanksgiving Day:

Farmington Civic Theater opens at 7:10 p.m. to show Gravity and Enough Said at 7:25 p.m.

Dipson West River Centre opens at 10:30 a.m. with a showing of Frozen. For all movies and showtimes, visit the theater's website.
