Ribbon Campaign in Farmington Raises Awareness of 'Silent Killer'

The "Turn the Town Teal" campaign marks the beginning of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

Teal ribbons have been tied to lamp posts throughout downtown Farmington, to draw attention to a disease called the "silent killer" of women.

"Turn the Towns Teal" is a national effort to raise awareness about ovarian cancer in cities across the country. Volunteers are tying ribbons and handing out cards that list the symptoms of the disease during the month of September, which is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month.

According to the American Cancer Society, about 22,000 new cases of ovarian cancer will be diagnosed in the U.S. this year, and 15,000 women will die of the disease, which often goes undiagnosed until its later stages.
