Canine Circovirus

We are all this boat together. Right now we don't have much information on this newish virus. We can't tell you precautions to take, how this is being spread, or how deep the impact will be on our dog population. Should you be concerned, absolutely. Should you panic and put your dog in a bubble, no.

The word of the hour is vigilance. Know the symptoms to look for. All pets can have a day or so where they don't feel well. We don't want to over interpret every sigh as "my pet is dying", but if your pet does develop this illness we MUST act quickly. If your pet doesn't seem like himself, be extra alert. If you have concerns call your veterinarian and she will help you to determine how aggressively you need to treat.

For more information please see http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-1043962 and https://www.avma.org/KB/Resources/Pages/Circovirus-in-Dogs-Frequently-Asked-Questions.aspx. We are all very concerned right now, but if we all breathe and are vigilant we will get through this scary time together.
