Next Step Brushing Teeth- 2nd Homework Assignment

Good afternoon dear folks.  So how is it going?  Any issues?  Feel free to ask questions!  So by now you should be finding out that this is not a time consuming or scary process.

By now your pets should be eagerly licking the toothpaste off of your finger.  No fuss, no fighting.  We have now taught them that it is a rewarding experience for you to break out the toothpaste.  For some of you this is as far as the process goes.  Yep, you heard right-this is your "brushing teeth" regimen.  Some pets will never allow you to put your fingers in their mouths; this is OKAY!  2-3 times per week let them lick!  This "mooshes" the toothpaste around their mouths.  Pet toothpastes contain tarter fighting properties so they receive benefit.  Great job!

Even if you don't think the pet will tolerate it try this next step and see how it goes.  Again- no fighting or struggling allowed here.  This is NOT a contest and we are not giving out grades!  For this next week apply the toothpaste to your finger, let the pet lick some off, and GENTLY slide your finger into the pet's mouth between the cheek and teeth; remove finger quickly allow pet to lick off residual toothpaste.  This should not take longer than 1 second.  Do not wiggle around.  Do not grab the face and make the pet allow this.  Slide in: remove.  Done.  The pet will back up the first few times you do this- this is okay.
We will stay on this step for a few days.  Practice once daily for under 10 seconds total.  Stay tuned.
