Retired Farmington, Farmington Hills City Employees Die July 28

Bob Hope and Bob Boyd gave a combined 63 years of service to their communities.

Two men who served the cities of Farmington and Farmington Hills for a combined 63 years both died on July 28. 

Robert "Bob" Boyd, 73, and Robert "Bob" Hope, 71, were both retired. Boyd worked as a firefighter out of Farmington Hills Fire Station #3 for 18 years and for the city's Department of Public Works for 25 years. Hope had been employed by the City of Farmington's Department of Public Works for 38 years before his retirement. 

A memorial service for Boyd will be held Monday, 4 p.m., with visitation beginning at 2 p.m., at Thayer-Rock Funeral Home in Farmington. He is survived by his children, Michael (Amanda) and David (Annette) Boyd; grandchildren Allison Boyd, Brandon Boyd, Katlin Boatman, Cheyenne Mason, Blyss Boyd, Steven Boyd and Allowynn Boyd; and his brothers Alan and Dale. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, and siblings Gary and Joyce.

Hope's funeral was held Saturday, also at Thayer-Rock Funeral Home. He is survived by his daughter Carrie; grandchildren Jennifer Kwapy (Matthew) and Ashley Cole; great-grandchildren, Robert and Alexis; many nieces, nephews and friends, and his canine companions Zuece and Lexi. His wife, Shirley and brother Jim preceded him in death.
