Local Businesses Make Recovery Easier

Local services can help you rest as you recover from surgery or illness.

Are you facing a recovery from surgery? Does your doctor expect you to rest, limit your physical activity and reduce stress?   

If so, there are measures you can take and local resources to help you recover and pass the time with ease while eating healthy and finding ways to entertain yourself.

Start out by preparing. Make sure you have staples in your refrigerator, milk, bread, cereals, fruit, vegetables and proteins. Cool treats like sherbert and fruit juice bars are soothing and comforting.

If your recovery will keep you down for more than a day or two, getting meals and medications may be difficult, but some local businesses can help:

Groceries

will do your grocery shopping for you, for a fee of $6.95. Place your order online at buschs.com, and personal shoppers will hand select your items and have them ready at their convenient pick-up spot. Ask a family member or friend to pick up your order.

Schwan’s Foods, schwans.com, will deliver right to your home. They have good quality frozen foods and great tasting meals starting at $5. Visit their website and check out their vast selection of foods. Their Live Smart Advantages products are focused on heart-smart, diabetes-friendly and weight management types of foods.  There are minimal additives or preservatives, moderate calories, fat and sodium.  These foods also have zero grams trans fat. Rumalees, offers a menu of Indian food at 30701 W. 12 Mile Road, Farmington Hills. Call 248-381-5449, 

Intelligent Chicken delivers – what else? – chicken. Call 248-880-3131. The restaurant is at 31799 Middlebelt Road, Farmington Hills.

, bellavinofinewine.com, at 29970 Twelve Mile Road, has a nice selection of carry-out foods on their menu. They will also deliver within a 5-mile radius. Check out their website for the varied selection of foods or call them at 248-851-1155.

Medications

Usually, your prescription medicine is ordered and picked up prior to surgery.    Sometimes after surgery, your doctor may want you to have another medication that you may not be able to pick up.

A new community pharmacy, Goldberg Pharmacy, goldbergpharmacy.com in Novi, will deliver medications to homes in Farmington and Farmington Hills. Call in advance to get their prices at 248-474-3333.

Fighting boredom

To help pass the time, our Farmington Community Library has a great selection of books, books on tape and free DVDs. If you are a member or have a Michicard, you are eligible to borrow items. There is no charge unless you’re late returning the items. The library has two locations, the Main Library at , or the Farmington branch at , same phone# for both 248-553-0300.

If you do crossword puzzles, make sure you have plenty on hand. Read magazines that you enjoy. If you have had eye surgery and can't read, the library offers books on CD, or listen to your favorite music – and don't forget the music channel selections offered by Bright House cable. Call your friends and catch up on their news.
