Community Corner

Our auditoriums need your help!

Dear Residents of Farmington and Farmington Hills,

We have gathered our thoughts to let our Farmington Public Schools' community know how we feel about the upcoming bond proposal and its impact on the auditoriums. Together, our team represents approximately 110 years of educating your young people, in addition to staging more than 85 plays and musicals within our schools and community since 1970. Not only have we nurtured your students in productions during the school year, we have also helped them to work closely with adult community members in the school district/community musicals.  Even though we retired from teaching, we continue to work earnestly within these aging auditoriums, and we are here to say - yes - they need improvements.

In our capacity of serving on an investigative committee several years ago for suggesting possible improvements, we had the privilege of visiting some Michigan schools where auditoriums/performing arts centers are held in high esteem.  We learned that not only can a professional, modern venue make our students shine even brighter and voices resonate more beautifully, but safety can be secured more easily, when facilities are updated.

We encourage all citizens of Farmington/Farmington Hills to support the bond proposal on Tuesday, August 6, 2013.  All students in the FPS district use the auditoriums at some point during their school career.  We believe the community, as a whole, benefits tremendously not only from providing our students with an environment that encourages their learning and creativity, but from enjoying facilities, performances, and events, that make them feel proud of themselves and Farmington Public Schools.

As always, thank you for your support - past, present and future,

Dean Cobb, Sue Cobb, Lucy Koviak and Kathy Seremet
