Support the school bond - vote YES on Aug 6

The school bond should not be decided by emotion, and should not be directed by misinformation or public opinion.  Like all bond initiatives before it, the yes vote should be based in facts.  The Farmington Public Schools has done a wonderful job getting the information out.  Beyond the local news coverage, there was a public informational meeting held, there have been ListServ emails, there’s a Facebook page, there have been direct mailings, there are knowledgeable persons providing information at the Farmers Market, and of course the Farmington Public Schools website is a resource as well.

Our students and staff should be provided with the tools to ensure success.  We expend time and resources sending our teachers to learn the latest in successful teaching styles and they deserve to be provided the means to implement them.

Additionally, without the bond, money for infrastructure on our aging buildings will continue to drain the general fund which then causes cuts to programming and teachers.  It’s a trickle-down theory that we can’t afford.

Technology and progress are not luxuries, they are necessities to survival.  Even the Farmington Civic, a town treasure, recognized that unless it upgraded to digital and 3D it would become obsolete.  The city government authorized spending just over $151,000 of its budget for the purchase of digital equipment.  Our schools, students and teachers deserve the same opportunities to stay relevant and ahead of the game.

Don’t base your decision on news headlines and rhetoric, take the time to become acquainted with all the information.  Then vote Yes on August 6.
