Community Corner

Thank You to our caring community

On Wednesday, June 19th, The Grand Tavern in Farmington Hills graciously hosted an amazingly successful fundraising benefit dinner for the Graham E. Smith Memorial Fund for Suicide Prevention. We wish to extend a special THANK YOU to the Grand Tavern for their donation of a delicious full pasta dinner, their time, use of their restaurant, and fundraising provided through the sale of 50/50 raffle tickets. We would be remiss to not also give our heartfelt thanks to the community members who made a special pledge to come out to support our cause.

The GES Memorial Fund works closely with the Farmington S.A.F.E. (Suicide Awareness For Everyone)
Task Force, whose members endeavor to provide open education about the signs and symptoms of depression and to remove the stigma that mental health issues typically carry in today’s society. With the overwhelming support of the community, the June 19th fund raiser brought in sufficient funds to assist the Farmington S.A.F.E. Task Force in continuing to provide resource materials and open community conversations. The Farmington SAFE Task Force believes that being able to ‘talk about It’ is the first step in recognizing suicide as the epidemic it is, and realizing there are ways to obtain help for yourselves, and your loved ones.

Thank you to all who participated in this very important event, with your continued support, we will be able to make a difference. Please look for information regarding our next event, a softball tournament, planned for August. It should provide an afternoon of fun, healthy competition, and community interaction.
