From the Commission on Children, Youth and Families

What CYF does for our community

Since 2006 the Commission on Children, Youth and Families has undertaken, as one of its ongoing projects and, we hope, a contribution to our cities' citizens, a TV show. Called the CYF talk show, the show has identified and provided information on a wide variety of issues that have come to the attention of our Commission.  In turn we have turned these “issues” into TV shows so that discussion and conversation may provide more helpful information on these matters.

For many years, former commissioner and chair of our commission, Mary Mullison, emceed these programs.  With a change of staff recently, we have now identified and have welcomed to the emcee post Lynne Meredith Golodner. Ms. Golodner is an author, blogger and host of her own website: www.lynnegolodner.com.  With this background Lynne has a natural interest in the kinds of issues that the CYF has wished to cover over the years.

Among the topics that we have covered over the years, the Commission has produced, among others, programs on addiction, nutrition, school related issues, and work place bullying. These topics and our other shows can be found by searching the Southwestern Oakland Cable Commission (SWOCC) website at http://swoccstudios.pegcentral.com.  At that website, type CYF into the search engine to identify these and other shows. Because of technical matters with the SWOCC, not all of our shows are available “on demand”.  But a careful search will locate many of the shows.  Also, many of the shows will occasionally appear on reruns on the Farmington Hills channel 8.

In a time of changing lifestyles, new research, and other societal changes learning about what is happening and hearing professional on matters is just one way we can care for the needs of Farmington and Farmington Hills citizens. We hope that as you, the readers of this column, might review the programs produced and available you may have other ideas for programs and things the Commission might look into. Ed Cherkinski, our Secretary, is open to receiving these suggestions. You may reach him at echerkinsk@aol.com
