Farmington Public Safety officers are investigating a single vehicle accident that killed a 52-year-old Livonia woman at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

In an email sent to media at 6:40 a.m., Public Safety Director Bob Schulz said the woman's vehicle was traveling north at a high rate of speed on Farmington Road, when it slammed into a tree just south of Shiawassee.

Schulz said the Oakland County Medical Examiner will conduct tests for drugs and alcohol, and results will not be available for several weeks. The woman's name was not released; Schulz said she will be identified once family members have been notified.

Farmington Road was closed from Grand River to Shiawassee for several hours early Saturday morning, as investigators worked to determine how the accident happened. Witnesses said police covered the woman's body near the Shiawassee intersection, on the west side of the road. The vehicle landed on the east side of the road, closer to the middle of the block.

The crash, which woke neighbors, left the vehicle split in two and debris scattered up and down the road.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to Farmington-Farmington Hills Patch for more information as it becomes available.

Jim Van, didn't your mother ever tell you that if you can't say something nice not to say anything at all? I'm sure your family is super proud of the creep that you have become. I personally hope that karma one day kicks you in the throat. But my sister, the one who's memory you are so quick to disrespect, would ask me to pray for you. Pray that, if tragedy ever touches you, strangers show you and your family more kindness than you have shown to our family. So I will do that.

Dear Kayla, Wishing peace and comfort to your family at this painful time. Very sorry to see anyone adding to your burden of grief with cruel speculation. May kindness and goodness prevail. We have been praying for your family.

I almost never comment on blogs like this, but Jim Van's comments are so reprehensible as to demand an exception. As. Mr. McDiarmid suggested, please consider counseling at the very least. No mentally healthy person would say such mean and ugly things about someone and something of which he knows nothing for sure. Your speculation is hurtful and adds nothing to the conversation. We all should be wishing for answers for this family and offering our condolences for their loss.
