Editor's note: Farmington Hills Police believe that this crime was falsely reported

A 34-year-old Southfield woman called Farmington Hills Police shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday, after a man she offered to help hit her and took her cell phone.

According to the report, the woman told police she was talking on her phone as she walked from her sister's home in Southfield to Walgreen's at Grand River and Eight Mile. When she reached the store parking lot, a man approached and asked whether he could use her phone to call a friend to give him a ride.

The woman offered to call the friend, and as she was dialing a number the man gave, he hit her on the side of the head. When she dropped the phone, he scooped it up and ran to a black Aztek with tinted windows that was parked nearby.

The report indicated the woman was able to provide police with a license plate number. She described the man as black with lighter skin, in his 20s, 5-feet-7-inches tall, average weight, "afro style" hair, wearing a t-shirt and shorts.
