Charges Expected in Farmington Woman's Murder

Charges are expected today in connection with the murder of Kaitlin Elizabeth Hehir, 29, whose body was discovered Saturday in the Farmington home she shared with the man suspected of killing her. 

WJBK-TV reported Monday that grief counselors were called in Monday to the 47th District Court building in Farmington Hills, where Hehir had worked for the past four and a half years. The station reported that Hehir was from Plymouth and had lived in Farmington only a few months. 

Court administrator Dave Walsh told the Detroit Free Press Monday that Hehir was "incredibly bright – a friendly wonderful kid". The newspaper reported that officials said her body was dismembered, with remains found "in buckets in the garage and basement". 

While the Farmington Public Safety Department has not yet called in crisis support to help officers deal with investigating the gruesome crime scene, Director Bob Schulz said that remains an option. 

"We review each case," Schulz said. "Officers are still so busy actively working (the case), the emotion will not set in for a day or two." 

The incident began at around 10 p.m. on Saturday, when officers responded to a home the couple shared in the 23800 block of Colchester, in response to a missing person report. Hehir's boyfriend told police the last time he saw her was around 12:30 a.m. on Friday, when she dropped him off at home and left to go back to a party. But Hehir's friends told officers they had not seen her since she left the party to pick him up from work. 

Police detained the boyfriend after finding what appeared to be bloody plastic in the home. After the boyfriend told detectives that he and his girlfriend had a verbal argument that turned physical, police obtained a search warrant for the home and found Hehir's body. 

Because Hehir was a 47th District Court employee, the suspect's arraignment will be conducted in a different court. Her funeral arrangements are pending at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home in Plymouth.
