Construction Crew Hits Gas Line in Downtown Farmington

Farmington city manager Vince Pastue said eight gas line breaks have occurred since construction started on the Grove Street and Warner Street projects.

Several residents on Warner Street were evacuated from their homes Friday morning, as Consumers Energy repaired a 2-inch gas line hit by a construction crew.

This is the eighth time crews have hit lines during construction on Grove and Warner Streets, city manager Vince Pastue said.

"After the fifth time, I shut them down for three days and had Consumers Power go through procedures with them and all their subcontractors," Pastue said. "That was early July."

In one or two of the incidents, he said, lines were mismarked.

Pastue said the city will look into recovering liquidated damages. The repair is expected to delay the project a few hours.
