Crime Report: Breaking and Entering, Theft from Vehicles

The following arrest information was supplied by the Farmington Hills Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A 42-year-old Birmingham man who owns a home on Richmond Hill in Farmington Hills told police that someone broke into the home and took copper pipes.

According to the report, the man told that he had removed all his personal belongings from the house around 1:30 p.m. Friday, then secured the house. When he returned Sunday, he discovered that a large glass entry door window had been broken, and the pipes were missing.

A resident on Astor who was gone for a few hours Friday returned to find a number of items had been taken from his home. According to the police report, the front glass door was propped open, and the entry door had been kicked in. More than $3,000 worth of items, including two televisions, a laptop, video game and framing nailer, were missing.

Cellphone theft

A 38-year-old Farmington Hills man told police that someone took his cellphone from an unsecured backpack at the YMCA around 5 p.m. Monday. According to the report, the man told police the backpack was in the basketball room.

Thefts from vehicles

A resident on Paddock Drive told police he was watching television in his living room around 1:45 a.m. Sunday when he heard his wife's car alarm go off and discovered that the passenger-side front window had been smashed. According to the police report, the woman's makeup bag was found on the ground, but nothing else was taken.

Later Sunday morning, a Cranbrook Drive resident discovered that windows had been smashed in two vehicles parked in the driveway and in front of his home. According to the report, a GPS device was stolen from the vehicle parked in the street. The second vehicle also had pry marks on the window frame; the resident was unsure whether any items were taken.

Drunken driving arrest

A 52-year-old Detroit woman was arrested shortly after 9:15 p.m. Saturday following a traffic stop. According to the report, officers responded to a call about a possible drunken driver on Orchard Lake Road near Kmart. Police saw a vehicle with a damaged taillight weaving and traveling slowly, then the driver made an abrupt U-turn, the report said. Police then pulled over the vehicle. The driver failed field sobriety tests; a portable breath test analysis showed her blood alcohol was 0.16, twice the 0.08 legal limit, the report said. She faces charges of operating a vehicle under the influence. Following her arrest, the woman posted bond and was released to her son.

Narcotics arrest

An officer on patrol in the area of Grand River and Colgate Sunday around 9 p.m. arrested a 34-year-old South Lyon woman after a search of her vehicle turned up a substance that tested positive for heroin. According to the police report, the vehicle was stopped because it had an inoperable brake light. The woman told police she had been in recovery for a year after substance abuse treatment but later admitted she had relapsed, the report said.
