Crime Report: Burglaries, Embezzlement, Armed Robbery

The following arrest information was supplied by the Farmington Hills Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

An employee of on Orchard Lake Rd. returned to his car at 5:45 p.m. on Monday to find someone had broken out the front passenger window. According to the report filed by Farmington Hills Police, his wallet, which was inside the center console, and a laptop computer sitting on the front passenger seat were stolen.

Breaking and entering

A 26-year-old resident living on Cumberland told police that while he was out for lunch Monday someone broke into the home he shares with his parents. According to the report, a 47-inch flat screen television, BluRay DVD player and stereo equipment were missing, along with $1,200 in cash. Police believe entry may have been gained through a sliding door at the back of the house.

Drug possession

Hills police arrested a 31-year-old Brighton man and a 33-year-old woman from New Hudson for possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia after a routine traffic stop turned up crack cocaine, a glass pipe and marijuana in the car the man was driving. According to the report, the couple was stopped on Sunday, around 2:35 a.m., at Grand River and Colgate, after an officer on patrol clocked the vehicle doing 51 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. The woman told police they had purchased the drugs at 7 Mile Road and Telegraph.

Armed Robbery

A 24-year-old Detroit woman who was closing up at on Eight Mile Rd. told police an armed man took cash from the register and two adult DVDs from the store on Sunday around 9:40 p.m. According to the report, the woman said the man was wearing a black and white motorcycle jacket, black motorcycle helmet with a white design, a baby blue scarf over this mouth and sunglasses over his eyes, as well as black and blue gloves. The woman told police he rifled through drawers in a desk and found rolled change, along with approximately $400 in cash, but left those behind. He left with $86.45 from the register, and got into the passenger seat of a newer tan vehicle, with no license plate.

Drunk Driving

A 47-year-old Livonia man was arrested for drunk driving around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, after he was involved in a car accident at Grand River and Eight Mile Rd. According to the report, a citizen who called police believed the man was intoxicated and leaving the parking lot of a drug store in the northwest corner of the intersection. A portable breath test showed the man's blood alcohol was .20, which is more than twice the .08 legal limit.

Open container

A tip from a citizen led police to ticket a 46-year-old Redford Township man with having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle. Police stopped the man's truck at Eight Mile Rd. and Grand River on July 16 around 9:20 p.m, after the citizen reported seeing the occupants drinking beer. A search of the truck turned up open beer cans. The driver, who was not legally intoxicated, and two passengers were released at the scene.

Curfew violations

Six teen-aged boys were taken into custody at on Middlebelt July 16, after someone complained that they were throwing glass bottles and kicking vehicles in the parking lot. According to the report, police were called to the store around 12:45 a.m. Upon seeing uniformed officers, two of the teens ran away, but were later caught. The four Southfield 15-year-olds, a 14-year-old from Detroit and a 16-year-old from Southfield told police they had been to a movie at West River Theater and walked to the store. Police had them clean up the garbage they had strewn in the parking lot, then brought them to the Farmington Hills Police Department, where their parents were called to pick them up. The 16-year-old was charged with aiding underage children to violate curfew; the others were charged with curfew violations.
