Crime Report: Cars Stolen From Botsford Hospital Lots

The following arrest information was supplied by the Farmington Hills Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Two cars were stolen from parking lots on separate occasions last week, according to Farmington Hills police.

On Aug. 25, a hospital employee reported to police that his vehicle was taken from a north lot between 7:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. On Aug. 27, a Farmington Hills woman told police her vehicle was stolen from a parking lot north of the hospital's emergency room entrance, sometime between Aug. 26 at 8:10 p.m. and Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. According to both police reports, there was no broken glass at either scene, and both owners told police they still had their car keys.

Larceny

A 61-year-old Farmington Hills woman told police someone broke into her vehicle while it was parked in a garage on Hunters Drive between Aug. 24 at 8 p.m. and Aug. 25 at 7 a.m., and took her gym bag. According to the report, the bag only contained clothing.

Counterfeit bill passed

The owner of on Grand River told police someone passed a counterfeit $20 bill sometime between 12 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Aug. 25. According to the report, the bill was discovered the following morning and was likely used to pay for go kart rides.

Cell phone theft reported

A 19-year-old Eastpointe man told police two men pulled a knife and robbed him of a cell phone on Aug. 26 around 6 p.m. after he agreed to take part in a money-making scheme. According to the report, the man told police he was desperate for money and agreed to take part in a scheme with another man. This man told the Eastpointe man that if he bought a cell phone at the AT&T store on Orchard Lake Rd., he would put him in touch with a third man who would buy the phone for $300 more than the purchase price.

After the phone was purchased, however, it was taken from the Eastpointe man at a Mobil gas station at 13 Mile and Orchard Lake Roads, by a friend of the man who set up the deal. The report indicated two men who were riding with the Eastpointe man did not see the incident, and no surveillance cameras were present.

Patio fire

responded to a patio fire on Muirwood Aug. 26 around 8:30 p.m. According to the report, the resident, a 33-year-old man, told police he had just returned from a trip to Ann Arbor. The incident is being investigated as a possible arson.

Burglary

The owner of on 12 Mile Rd. arrived at the store on Aug. 29 at 6 a.m. to find that someone had entered and stolen more than $300 from cash drawers and a desk. According to the report, police found the back door unlocked and ceiling fan louvers damaged, as well as damage to a roof vent over a neighboring store in the same building.

Narcotics arrests

A 22-year-old Birmingham woman was arrested Aug. 28, on charges related to prescription pills found in her purse. According to the report, an officer stopped the woman's car on M-5 near Orchard Lake Rd. because of a loud exhaust and broken passenger brake light. The woman told police she had marijuana in her car and Xanax in her purse. In addition to the arrest on narcotics charges, she was ticketed for the noisy muffler and non-functioning brake light.

A 23-year-old Southfield man was arrested Aug. 28 at Middlebelt and Omenwood, after police spotted his car trailing a large amount of smoke. According to the report, a check of his license plate indicated the car was impounded and the owner's license was suspended. While searching the driver, a prescription bottle containing herion and cocaine fell out from his left pant leg. A search of his car turned up a bag of syringes. He was taken into custody on charges of driving with a suspended license, possession of narcotics and operating a vehicle while under the influence.

A woman staying at the on Grand River was arrested Aug. 28, on charges of possessing marijuana and narcotics paraphernalia. According to the report, an officer checking license plates in the motel lot found a vehicle belonging to a 42-year-old Farmington Hills woman wanted on a retail fraud charge. He stopped her as she returned to the motel, and a search of her vehicle turned up half a marijuana cigarette, and a piece of a ballpoint pen and a perfume vial with narcotics residue on them. 

Attempted home invasion

An 87-year-old woman who lives in called police after a man tried to enter her trailer through a window early Saturday morning. According to the report, the man ran after the woman yelled at him. Police found the screen had been removed from the window, which was raised up.

Maimed animal

Police were called to a home on Hamilton Ave. after a woman reported her 18-year-old nephew, a Canton resident, had injured her cat after smoking "haze," an incense he purchased at a gas station. According to the report, the woman's live-in boyfriend told police the teen had been hearing voices and said the devil told him to poke the cat's eye out. The cat was found alive, but bleeding and with a badly damaged eye. The Canton man was arrested on a charge of animal cruelty.
