Crime Report: Snowblower Taken from Open Garage in Farmington Hills

The following arrest information was supplied by the Farmington Public Safety Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A resident on Cheshire Drive told that someone took a snow blower from his open garage early Tuesday morning. 

According to the report, the homeowner saw a light from inside the garage at around 2:30 a.m. but was unable to close the garage door with a remote opener. He discovered the snow blower was missing as he walked out to check the door's sensors, the report said. 

Minor ticketed with alcohol possession

Based on an anonymous tip from another student, a 17-year-old student faces charges of alcohol possession and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. According to the police report, a school official was told Monday morning that the student was drinking alcohol out of a 2-liter pop bottle. The student told police he had put a small amount of alcohol in the bottle because he was having a rough morning, the report indicated. A search of his backpack uncovered a marijuana pipe crafted from a highlighter pen, the report said.

Breaking and entering

  • A resident on Freedom Road left home around 4:30 p.m. Saturday and returned two hours later to find that jewelry and a mink jacket had been stolen, a police report said. According to the report, a sliding glass door in the living room was broken to gain entry to the home. 
  • A resident on Floralview arrived home from work early Saturday to find his apartment door open, a police report said. According to the report, three computers, two monitors, $1,200 in cash and jewelry were taken from the residence, and a bedroom was ransacked. 
  • A resident on Shiawassee Road called police Monday evening after she discovered that someone had taken jewelry from her home. According to the report, the woman had been away from home Saturday and noticed that evening that the motion detector lights in her backyard were not working. She later found that someone had loosened them, the report said. She also found pry marks on a rear sliding-glass door and damage to the weather stripping, the report said. 

Narcotics arrests

  • A 34-year-old Farmington Hills man faces a charge of narcotics possession after his vehicle was stopped at Haggerty and Lancaster Saturday for not signaling a turn. According to the report, an officer found more than $2,900 in cash and two small plastic bags of marijuana during a search of the man and his car. 
  • A 52-year-old Detroit man faces charges of marijuana possession after his vehicle was stopped for equipment violations Saturday evening at 12 Mile and Middlebelt roads. According to the report, the driver told police his driver's license was suspended, and a search turned up a sock in his jacket pocket that contained marijuana in small plastic bags and a plastic container. Police also found a partially smoked marijuana cigarette, the report indicated. 

Drunken driving arrests

A 31-year-old Bruce Township man was taken to Botsford Hospital on Thursday evening after police found him in his vehicle and extremely intoxicated. According to the report, a resident told police the driver followed him into an apartment complex parking lot on 12 Mile Road and appeared to have difficulty driving. When the resident approached the driver and smelled alcohol, he called police. A portable breath test showed the man's blood alcohol was 0.33, which is more than four times the 0.08 legal limit. The driver faces a charge of operating a vehicle while under the influence. 

A 50-year-old Farmington Hills man faces charges of drunken driving, fleeing and eluding police, driving on a restricted license and leaving the scene of two accidents after he led police on a brief chase early Saturday. According to the report, police responding to a hit-and-run incident at Nine Mile and Middlebelt were called to a second accident at 10 Mile and Middlebelt shortly after midnight.

The report said the man drove on a sidewalk at that intersection, hitting a road sign and then entering south Middlebelt, where he continued driving at around 30 miles per hour, weaving across the road. An officer hit the vehicle twice and forced it to stop near Nine Mile Road, the report said. Police found an empty bottle of alcohol in the vehicle, and the report indicated that a portable breath test measured the driver's blood alcohol at 0.21, more than twice the 0.08 legal limit.

Weapons violation

A 36-year-old Detroit man faces a charge of possessing an illegal weapon after a traffic stop around 2 a.m. Jan. 25 at Inkster and 11 Mile roads. According to the report, the man's vehicle was stopped because an officer saw it weaving on the road. A search of the vehicle turned up a stun gun in working order, the report said. The driver was also ticketed for not having proof of insurance, the report indicated.
