Crime Report: Embezzlement Charged After Insurance Payments Disappear

The following arrest information was supplied by the Farmington Public Safety Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A 26-year-old Plymouth man who worked for a Farmington insurance agency faces a charge of embezzlement, after cash payments made by two clients never reached the insurance company.

According to the report, the insurance agent contacted police after the employee quit his job and the missing payments were discovered. The two cash payments of $243 and $160 were taken between Sept. 29 and Oct. 7. The report indicated that one of two women who received a cancellation notice contacted the office, and the employee told her he would take care of it, but quit via a text message to the insurance agent later that day. An officer who interviewed the former employee reported that the man was arrested after confessing to the crimes.

Drug paraphernalia arrest

A 38-year-old Belleville man faces a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, following a traffic stop at M-5 and Farmington Rd. around 2:45 a.m. on Oct. 25. According to the report, an officer following a vehicle noticed it had a cracked tail light. The driver slowed to 25 miles per hour in a 70-mile-per-hour speed zone, then pulled over, and the officer pulled in behind. The report indicated that the driver had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for possession of narcotics paraphernalia out of Farmington Hills Police Dept., and a search of the vehicle turned up a metal pipe with burn marks on it, which had been stored in an open aspirin bottle. Once he was charged, he was taken to Farmington Hills.
