Crime Report: Farmington Hills Business Owner Says Customer Sold Him Stolen Vehicle

The owner of 14K Gold and Diamond Exchange in Farmington Hills learned from police Monday that a vehicle he purchased in November had a fraudulent title.

According to the report, the business owner purchased the Range Rover for $21,500 from a Detroit man, then took it to a consignment sale lot Nov. 19. The owner of the lot later called to say the vehicle had been stolen, but when the business owner contacted , he learned it had been repossessed. The report indicated that the vehicle's title was found to have been forged. 

Breaking and entering

  • A homeowner on Verona called police after returning home Monday to find a side door open and a television sitting by the door. According to the report, the homeowner had been gone from 1:30 p.m. to around 4 p.m. A chair was used to gain entry to an unlocked rear window, the report said; televisions, jewelry and cash were taken. 
  • A woman who left her home on Adams Court at 2 p.m. Saturday returned six hours later to find the front door open and about $6,700 worth of electronics and jewelry missing from her home, police said. According to the report, the woman told police she was certain she had locked the deadbolt when she left home. 
  • Several guns were among the items taken from a home on Metroview sometime between 3:30-5 p.m. Nov. 28. According to the report, the front door was forced open, and desk drawers and dressers were rifled through. A Smith & Wesson 9 mm handgun, Remington 20-gauge shotgun and Remington 12-gauge shotgun were taken, along with a television, a safe and a range bag with ammunition. 

Dog injured

The owner of a small dog injured by a car at 8:40 a.m. Saturday would like to find the vehicle driver, as she is considering civil court action. According to the police report, the woman was walking the dog at Deer Run and Tanglewood when the vehicle passed, and its left rear tire hit the dog, causing a severe injury. The woman told police that the vehicle stopped, and an elderly female passenger got out briefly to apologize. The report indicated that the woman got back into the car, which drove off onto Pine Ridge. The dog owner said the driver was an elderly man.

Fraud alleged

A Redford Township woman contacted Farmington Hills Police on Friday after she received a bill from , though she had not been treated there. According to the report, the charges were for an overnight hospital stay, during which an unknown woman was treated for a hand injury Nov. 14-15. The patient had used the woman's identification, so that her insurance company was billed for the stay. She told police she was contacting the insurance agency to have the charges removed from her account.

Narcotics arrest

Police arrested a 47-year-old Wixom man around 10:30 p.m. Thursday after an officer stopped a vehicle on M-5 west of Drake Road. According to the report, the driver told the officer he had no driver's license, and a search uncovered a white pill in the man's pants pocket that the officer believed was Vicodin. A search of the vehicle turned up a small amount of cocaine in a gum wrapper, the report said. The driver told police that he had purchased the drugs at a Checkers restaurant on Grand River, that it was his birthday, and he wanted to stay up all night. In addition to facing charges for narcotics possession, the driver was ticketed for having a loud exhaust.
